The best thing about day trips from Madrid is that you can experience the core of any city from all corners of Spain, without changing lodging from the center. From historic gems to coastal escapes, these day trips can offer something unique for every type of traveler. Here’s a breakdown of the top 8 day trips from Madrid, complete with travel times, essential info, and reasons why each spot is worth your visit.

The first four suggestions are relatively close by to Madrid, being near the center of Spain. The last five are cities a bit further where you can still get a holistic view of Spain when on a time crunch! These day trips are definitely doable. When some friends came to visit me during break, they did day trips in Valencia, Barcelona, and Seville. Having amazing times in each with perfect itineraries built out for each day. Without further ado, I’ll now go into perfect day trips from Madrid!


1. Segovia

  • Why Visit: Roman aqueduct, fairy-tale Alcázar, and the birthplace of the famous suckling pig (cuchinillo)

    • Roast Suckling Pig: Home to cuchinillo asado (roast suckling pig), a must-try dish that was founded in this very city.
